The International Trade Centre partners with design platform Canva to upskill entrepreneurs in Africa with the design and marketing tools they need.

A tailored webinar hosted by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and Australian online design platform Canva on 24 February 2022 supported almost 550 entrepreneurs from across Africa in expanding their graphic design and marketing skills. Canva offered each participating entrepreneur a 1-year Canva Pro subscription voucher for free to support them in honing their marketing content.

The partnership strengthens the skills of entrepreneurs from throughout ITC’s networks, as they learn how to use Canva for their specific business needs – from marketing and design to employing collaboration tools.

The majority of this webinar’s participants are women entrepreneurs between the ages of 18-35 based in the Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia, as well as Dadaab, Kenya where an ITC project supports refugee employability and freelancing skills. The participants were selected based on a call for interest where over 1,400 entrepreneurs showed an interest in the upskilling opportunities offered by Canva.

The joint workshop with Canva reflects ITC’s commitment to rally all relevant stakeholders, including the private sector, toward advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by mobilizing software providers to empower businesses, especially young and vulnerable groups, in operating their businesses successfully – ITC’s core mandate.

A promising future

Moreover, the training addresses the need for design education in other regions and in a variety of languages for accessing critical design tools.

Watch this space for more news on how the training and Canva Pro are shaping the lives of the entrepreneurs ITC supports.
