Strengthening the trade regulatory framework will help Haiti’s government build a trusting relationship with the private sector.  That’s according to H.E. Mr. Wilson Laleau, Haiti’s Minister of Trade during a meeting with the International Trade Centre (ITC) on the sidelines of the World Trade Organization (WTO)’s Eighth Ministerial Conference.

The Minister discussed with ITC the four ongoing ITC initiatives in Haiti, the Caribbean region’s only least developed country.  The first project is improving the trade regulatory framework, which is aimed at not only building trust but also enabling a positive environment for investment.  ITC is also working with the Caribbean region in the creative industries sector and is launching in Haiti an extension of ITC’s Ethical Fashion Programme which has provided employment to more than 7,000 people in Africa.

The fourth project that is planned is under the Enhanced Integrated Framework: a survey on non-tariff measures, related to the Diagnostic Trade Integration Study.
