Project to accelerate exports launched in Qatar

Qatar Development Bank (QDB), with the technical support of the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Singapore Management University (SMU), will help boost export-led growth and enhance reach of Qatari enterprises to international markets through the Go Global Program.

The initiative will help 15 selected small and medium enterprises (SMEs) overcome the challenges in engaging internationally and enable them to network effectively with potential clients or affiliated enterprises.

By participating in the Go Global Program, the SMEs will increase their existing exports by acquiring the needed skills and knowledge to identify and explore new market opportunities, improve business operations and export functions, and diversify business partners.

The companies will also benefit from exposure to best export practices, trainings, direct coaching tailored to their specific needs and most importantly, connection with export markets and buyers.

Speaking on the occasion, ITC’s Executive Director Ms. Pamela Coke-Hamilton said: ‘I am happy to launch the programme, alongside our partners from the Qatar Development Bank and the Singapore Management University, as well as a dynamic and motivated group of businesses. I’m thrilled that ITC is joining these two well established institutions in creating and delivering this programme aimed at helping small and medium-sized enterprises in Qatar boost their exports.

The project will make our beneficiary SMEs more competitive in international markets, more profitable and more inclusive. It will increase exports by exploring new market opportunities. Throughout the project, we’ll ensure that our SMEs will be exposed to only the best export practices, direct assistance tailored to individual needs and most importantly contact with export markets and buyers.’

QDB’s Acting CEO Mr. Abdulrahman Al Sowaidi, highlighted the importance of the project in developing the export capabilities of Qatari companies, adding: “In collaboration with our partners, ITC & Singapore Management University, we are inaugurating wave 2 of the Go Global program which is the first of its kind in Qatar - aiming to promote the prosperity of Qatari enterprises across different sectors and domains. This cooperation comes as a result of the feats we achieved together last year, while effectively contributing to Qatar’s economic diversification. This would not have happened without our team’s dedicated efforts, as the total value of all exports exceeded the one billion Qatari riyals mark during 2021, and we look forward to another successful cycle as our clients NHC’s base new enterprises begin their developmental exporting journey.”

The project’s activities contribute directly to the realization of the Qatar National Vision 2030 which puts diversification of the economy as a priority objective. ITC is committed to supporting Qatar in realizing this objective through this new project as well as future opportunities for collaboration in Qatar and in the region.
