Tajikistan’s most visionary fashion students part of national contest

 
For the first time this year, a catwalk and special fashion designers’ nominations were included in the contest programme. Divided in four categories (best student designer of the sectoral colleges and universities, best designer of textile and clothing companies, best textile company manager, and best clothing company manager), the contest included participants from several apparel companies and students from six fashion design universities.

 
“As young designers, participating at a national contest is essential to bridge opportunities for a future career,” says Gulzamina, a local student and a first-time contest winner. “The content has provided us with a unique platform to show our talent, and to inspire and influence the Tajik clothing industry.”

The partnership

Developing partnerships between the apparel industry, the academia and vocational training institute is a crucial part of the International Trade Centre’s Global Textiles and Clothing Programme (GTEX).

In Tajikistan, these activities lead to an enthusiastic initiative to further strengthen the partnership between UPSDT and national universities.

 
“We are delighted to participate in this national contest,” says Davlatyor Sheraliev, Deputy Rector at the State Art and Design University of Tajikistan. “Initiatives such as these, encourage our work and students to invest in innovative ideas.”

He adds: “With the GTEX project, we saw a big shift in the national apparel industry. ITC as a crucial partner of our university, has proved to be an energizing institution supporting the companies and educational institutions.”

Fayzali Rajabov, UPSDT Chairman of Board, anticipates fruitful exchanges in the national textile and clothing industry: “Training qualified engineers and workers of key specialities, ensuring the competitiveness of manufactured products in the domestic and foreign markets, and undertaking other important initiatives will support the development of the country’s textile and clothing industry.”

About the Global Textiles and Clothing Programme

The International Trade Centre’s Global Textiles and Clothing Programme (GTEX) is funded by the Government of Switzerland. The four-year-long project provides support to Textile and Clothing companies in Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) and the Middle East and North Africa (Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia). The programme aims to promote textile and clothing exports and stimulate employment and income generation along the value chain.
