NTM Business Surveys
NTM Business Surveys: Giving small companies a voice.
ITC’s Business Surveys on Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs) gather evidence from the ground about unnecessary trade costs that non-tariff measures can cause. The NTM Survey covers at least 90% of the total export value of each participating country (excluding minerals and arms).
By interviewing companies about the regulatory and procedural obstacles they face on all goods sectors and services sectors, ITC’s Business Surveys on Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs) reveal trade barriers that are often invisible. To date, ITC has interviewed over 30,000 exporters and importers in over 70 countries.
The NTM Survey is confidential, thereby ensuring a high degree of participation, integrity and confidence in the quality of the data.
How do ITC Business Surveys help companies and countries?
The ultimate goal of the NTM Survey is to be a driver for change. The survey results serve as a diagnostic tool to identify and solve trade obstacles.
The findings of each ITC NTM Survey are presented and discussed at stakeholder workshops that bring together government officials, experts, companies, donors, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and academics.
The key recommendations brought up during these meetings provide a clear roadmap for official authorities to design adequate trade policies, reduce unnecessary trade costs and boost competitiveness.
