A new ITC publication sets out how business concerns over non-tariff measures in Malawi can be dealt with

Malawi: Company perspectives — an ITC series on non-tariff measures, a survey by the International Trade Centre of exporters and importers, reveals that Malawi’s main challenges to access markets abroad are two-fold in relation to non-tariff measures.

First of all product certification is problematic because companies have difficulties to meet international standards. In addition, Malawi lacks an internationally accredited facility to certify products. Second, export licensing is a real challenge because of the many institutions involved, which again contributes to inefficiency in issuing licenses.

This report presents and analyses the survey results, including trade policy implications for Malawi. It also outlines the recommendations established during a public-private dialogue on the survey results.
